Discover how you can quickly and easily add new products to your online store.
Our ecommerce websites are built using WordPress and Woocommerce which work together seamlessly. Both systems are very user friendly and so are amazingly easy to use once you know what to do. This post will explore how you can add in products quickly and easily by following our easy-to-follow tutorial videos.
There are two main types of products which we will cover: simple and variable products.
Simple Products
Simple products are just that: simple. There are no extra options, it is just that item for sale at the listed price. These are the easiest to setup and manage.
- Go to Products > All Products. This will list all your current products which you can edit, delete, or duplicate as needed.
- Click Add New.
- Add in the Product name.
- Add in a long description (if needed). Here you can customise the text using headings, images, etc.
- Select or add Product categories. Check the categories which apply or Add new category.
- Under Product data:
- General:
- Add in the Regular price.
- If the item is on sale you can add a Sale price. You can also set a schedule for this sale price to apply.
- Inventory:
- Add in an SKU (if applicable).
- Check Manage stock if you would like to enter in a stock amount.
- Shipping:
- Depending on how shipping is setup on your website this may be automated. If you are using a shipping calculator you may need to enter in the weight and dimensions.
- Linked Products, Attributes and Advanced are not really needed.
- General:
- Add in a Product short description. Here you can customise the text using headings, images, etc.
- Add Product tags (as needed).
- Set a Product Featured Image. Here you can either select an image from the Media Library or upload a new image.
- If there are additional images you can add them in the Product Gallery.
- Click Save Draft to set it as a draft or Publish to make the product live.
Variable Products
Variable products are products that have selectable variations. Variations can be colour, size, or anything that you like.
- For variable products it is best to start with adding in the Attributes which will be used for the variations. Go to Products > Attributes.
- Create your first attribute by:
- Adding in the Name eg. Size
- Under Default sort order set the sort order (if needed). For size it is best to just use custom order.
- Click Add Attribute.
- To setup the options under that attribute, click Configure terms.
- Start adding in the options by adding a name then click Add new.
- Once you have created all of you options you can reorder them by clicking and dragging (if custom order was selected at step 2b).
- Change the dropdown from Simple product to Variable product.
- Inventory:
- Add in an SKU (if applicable). SKUs can also be managed in the variations.
- Manage stock is best handled under each variation.
- Shipping:
- Depending on how shipping is setup on your website this may be automated. If you are using a shipping calculator you may need to enter in the weight and dimensions.
- Attributes:
- Select the attribute you created earlier, then click Add.
- Check Used for variations.
- Select the options / values.
- Click Save attributes.
- Variations:
- Here you can Add variation one by one or select Create variations from all attributes to automatically generate all available variations. Click Go.
- Once you have added the variations available you can then go in and edit each one as needed.
- You can also apply details to all by choosing an option in the dropdown eg. Set regular prices, then click Go and enter the price. Click OK.
- You can add images, adjust stock, set sales prices and more.
- Click Save changes.
There are also other product types and even custom product types. If your site uses these, we will send you a custom tutorial to go over your custom setup.
